Sometime in the future, historians will look back on our time and find that everything that exists that could go wrong in the context of the internet, has. At the same time, it's
doubtful whether historians, as we understand the definition of that term today, will even exist; a consequence of these same errors of the past and present. Various reasons can be given for this,
with the primary one being their replacement by archivists, the cyberspace version of a priest. Evidently, these two flame-bearering trades serve fundamentally different
purposes today, but one finds it somewhat difficult to carry this same idea over to a future where objectivity and truth are dictated further and further by forces outside of our control.
Maybe a world that is so far from ours of interpretive truths will be unfazed from the shockwaves this sudden change would, probably inevitably, bring about in our world; consider for a moment all the
turmoil caused by different flavors of religious texts as our base-line. Enouncing this last 'scribble', the world of the archivist is one of universal truth in chaos, one where historicity is strict and implied
for every little thing. For one to question its authenticity would be to challenge the means by which this truth was produced, which is to challenge the mind, that is to challenge god itself.
Really then, we must define god first; a very common connection made in the world's most prominent religions is that god is truth. Only, if truth is god and god is truth, what is the
archivist, the preacher of absolute, objective truth? Materially speaking, everything written down is also true, as tangibility is absolute truth; the source of this truth, the idea, the thing that forms out of
the aether, can't possibly outmatch what comes of it. AI is sort of like that too, isn't it?
These are stories found in the deepest depths of the Wired. As such, most of them are extremely old, so it's unclear if any useful information can be gathered from them. The most interesting ones will be posted here as they're discovered, for purposes of historical interest.
